The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University (FAH-SYSU), originally known as the Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Public Medical School, was founded in 1910 by Dr. Paul Todd (an American medical missionary) with 40 western doctors.  For more than a century, FAH-SYSU has been upholding its motto of “Treat the disease, heal the body, cure the mind; save people, save the nation, save the world”, and has now entered the ranks of China's top-tier hospitals.  

Composed of the Headquarters, Nansha Division, Guizhou Hospital and Guangxi Hospital, the hospital is building a healthcare network as a National Regional Medical Center in China.  FAH-SYSU is a candidate for the National Medical Center and a Pilot Hospital for the High-quality Development of National Public Hospitals.  It has 5 National Key Disciplines accredited by the Ministry of Education and 36 National Key Clinical Specialties by the National Health Commission, and has been rated “A++” in the National Performance Assessment of Tertiary Public Hospitals for four consecutive years.

At present, FAH-SYSU has established a network of international partners with over forty top medical institutions globally, including Mass General Brigham, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, University of California (Berkeley and Davis) in the U.S., the University of Birmingham, the International Association for Health Professions Education (AMEE) in the U.K., Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, etc.
